Causes of Heart Attacks

An arrhythmia is actually a condition with the frequency or irregularity of your heartbeat. It basically means that the rhythm or beat of your heart is out of sync with normal. When your heart beat out of sync with normal, then it's known as arrhythmia.

Arrhythmia is not a heart disease. It does not cause any permanent damage to the body. But when it's left untreated, you could end up having complications. In some instances, this can even result to death.

There are two types of arrhythmias – fixed and variable. Fixed arrhythmias are the type where the condition always remains the same for a long time. These types of arrhythmias are usually caused by age or hereditary factors. Usually these types of arrhythmias are detected by other family members. When it's left untreated, then the person could be suffering from other health conditions.

There are many different types of arrhythmias. Here are just some examples:

  • Heart attack is the most common cause of arrhythmias. A heart attack is a sudden abnormal beating of the heart muscle that causes damage to the heart muscle. Heart attacks are usually accompanied by severe chest pain.
  • Another cause of arrhythmias is cardiogenic pulmonary embolism (CPE), a rare condition in which an irregular heartbeat causes a blood clot to form in the lungs. This arrhythmia can also occur due to myocardial infarction. Myocardial infarction is a blockage in an artery or a serious heart attack. An example of this is a heart attack, in which arteries are blocked between the heart and the lungs. This type of arrhythmia is very dangerous because if the arteries are blocked, the blood supply will stop and you will suffocate.
  • Heart valve diseases cause arrhythmias because when the heart valves become damaged or weak, they don't open and close properly, causing a drop in blood pressure or blood flow. The condition can also lead to cardiac arrest.

In some cases, arrhythmias are caused by an abnormal heart rhythm

This is called atrial fibrillation and is a condition in which the heartbeat is irregular. It occurs when the heartbeat starts to speed up or slow down, and is sometimes accompanied by symptoms such as sweating, nausea, heart palpitations, dizziness and pain, breathing and palpitations.

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of sudden death from any cause. In coronary heart disease, the coronary arteries become narrowed or become enlarged, thus causing blockage of the arteries and can eventually lead to heart attack. Heart attack is a sudden, unexpected stoppage of the normal flow of blood through the body due to the presence of a blood clot in the heart artery walls.

It is not surprising that cardiac problems are linked with arrhythmia. Heart failure is another common cause of arrhythmia. People with congestive heart failure or heart arrhythmias are more likely to suffer from sudden death from heart problems.

The rate of heart rate may be affected by many things, but the main one is stress. A sudden increase in heart rate caused by a sudden stress can also cause arrhythmia.

If you know that you have any of the above mentioned causes of arrhythmia, then you should consult your doctor and discuss your symptoms with him. It would be best if you do this as early as possible in order to avoid having to experience any serious complications of your condition.

One thing that can be done is to reduce your stress and to maintain your heart rate to a healthier level so that you can avoid sudden death from heart disease. Also, it would be better if you maintain a healthy diet and get regular exercise. You can do exercises regularly to strengthen your heart. This way, you will be able to lower the chances of suffering from sudden death from heart disease.
